Welcome to the Metropolitan Business & Professional Women website.

Metropolitan BPW is a professional organization dedicated to building women leaders in the greater Charlotte community. We hope you'll join us.

Our History

Metropolitan BPW was founded in 1964 by Ruth Moss Easterling, one of the first women to serve in North Carolina’s state House of Representatives. Recognizing the need for a meeting time that was respectful of the demands on professional women’s time, she created the first luncheon meeting of BPW in the country

Elevate the standards for women in business and the professions, bring about a spirit of cooperation among business and professional women in the United States and extend opportunities to business and professional women through education.

Membership in Metropolitan BPW isn’t just about Charlotte — it includes regional and state levels. We offer scholarships, professional recognitions and conferences to provide opportunities for business and professional women. Since 1919, BPW/USA has been the voice of working women through legislative advocacy. A powerful network of members pursues the issues that matter most to working women.

Metropolitan BPW contributes to the Charlotte community in several ways. Our primary philanthropic activity is to provide scholarships for women pursuing a business or professional career. In honor of our founding member, Ruth Moss Easterling, we established an endowed scholarship at UNC-Charlotte awarded annually to undergraduate students from various programs at the institution. If you are or know an UNCC student, feel free to contact the Scholarship committee for details and applications.
